The Keybinding menu allows you to modify your keybindings, allowing you to perform advanced techs easier, notably those that require multiple key inputs in a single frame. As of version v1.0.594, you can bind multiple actions to multiple buttons with no limit.

Combinations

Note: The following keybindings assume that directional superjumps and directional groundpounds are disabled. Hence, when DOWN is mentioned, it is assumed it does not make you GROUNDPOUND, and likewise for UP and SUPERJUMP.

Fast Fall

  • Peppino: DOWN and GRAB
  • Noise: GROUNDPOUND and GRAB

The Fast Fall tech becomes much easier to perform without a wall buffer, allowing you to use it to get into narrow gaps or in rapid succession. This is by far the most useful multibind and you should absolutely dedicate a button to it.

This bind also doubles as a Grab Slide bind, letting you get minimum-distance Grab Slides and buffer them out of doors more easily.

High Jump

  • Both: (UP,) DASH, JUMP, and GRAB

The High Jump tech normally requires 3 buttons on the same frame (and a fourth held), so putting them all on a single buttons makes it much easier to hit in stride.

Restart Level

  1. Button 1: MENU DOWN and PAUSE
  2. Button 2: MENU DOWN and MENU CONFIRM

Note: As of the Noise update, this combination cannot be assigned natively within the game. You can either edit SaveData.ini directly, or downpatch the game to v1.0.5952 to assign this keybinding.

Result Screen Skip

  • Both: UP, MENU UP, PAUSE, and MENU CONFIRM

Result Screen Skip becomes much easier when it's entirely on one button. Make sure you hold down the button until you're back to the hub!

Note: As of the Noise update, this combination cannot be assigned natively within the game. You can either edit SaveData.ini directly, or downpatch the game to v1.0.5952 to assign this keybinding.

Supertaunt

  • Both: UP and TAUNT

Uppercut

  • Both: UP and GRAB

Grab/Shoot Animation Shortening / Taunt Cancel

  • Both: GRAB and TAUNT

Grab/Shoot Animation Shortening

Used to make Animation Shortening easier when using the Shotgun.

OPTIONAL: Add DOWN to this bind to Fast Fall after performing the animation shortening.

Uppercut Animation Shortening

  • Both: UP, TAUNT, and GRAB

Used to make Grab/Shoot Animation Shortening easier when performing Updoor.

* Please note that Animation Shortening is reliant on Taunt RNG and is not consistent. You can see how many frames of animation is saved for each taunt here.

Spinsta

  • Noise: UP, JUMP, and GROUNDPOUND

Hyperwallboost

  • Noise Button 1: RIGHT and GRAB
  • Noise Button 2: UP, JUMP, and GROUNDPOUND

Button 1 is optional, but will make hywoosts easier to perform.

  • Button 2 also acts as a Spinsta button

Crusher Cancel

  • Noise: UP, JUMP, and DASH

Recommendations and Suggestions

The following are suggestions from various speedrunners.

You are free to make your own suggestions if you want.

  • Disabling Directional Superjump and Directional Groundpound is recommended. This allows you to enter doors without accidentally Superjumping and perform Fast Fall without accidentally groundpounding. If you still want Directional Superjump and Directional Groundpound, this can be done in the menu instead by binding SUPERJUMP and UP or GROUNDPOUND and DOWN to a button. Doing so allows you to have Directional buttons while still allowing decoupled UP, SUPERJUMP, DOWN, or GROUNDPOUND buttons.
  • Binding MENU CANCEL to your DASH button can make you perform pause buffered Instaturns slightly faster while pressing one fewer button.
  • For High Jump, it is preferable not to bind UP to the High Jump button as it makes grabbing backwards after high jumping easier to perform. This may be more useful in 100%/101%.
  • For John Gutter 101%, it is possible to obtain the Let's Make This Quick achievement using the Restart Level bind by additionally binding UP to button 1, then restart in front of the exit door.
  • Depending on the keyboard used, you may try to assign DASH to the Left Control key and hold the button with your left palm instead of one of your fingers, freeing up one of your fingers for other actions.
